Academy Information
Academy Overview
Our Academy program is the first step in the development pyramid that our club provides.
Its main concepts are to:
1. Provide a fun a challenging environment to develop social and soccer skills
2. Offer an age/ability specific development plan taught by a professional licensed trainer
3. Give players and parents an insight into our clubs training and player development philosophies
4. To prepare players for tryouts (held each June)
The program is open to children aged 5 to 9 who DO NOT player on any of our travel teams and requires NO previous soccer experience. (Players from inside and outside of the Gurnee community are welcome).
The Academy runs over the three main soccer seasons; fall, winter and spring. The fall and spring outdoor sessions take place at Viking Park and the indoor session will be held at an indoor facility in town.
Since its inception in 2007, the program has continued to evolve (based on feedback from parents and training staff) as well as developing players to get them ready for travel soccer.
Of the players who are aged 7 and above, around 70% of actually play on our teams after their experiences in the program.
In an effort to continue to develop our program and the children within it, we will now be adopting program structure changes. (These changes have been based on the curriculum our Director of Coaching has created, in-line with US Soccer’s player development models).
The Academy will now have three main age groups; *U6, U8, U9. (You can click on the below attachments to get a better understanding of each program).
*U means “Under”. I.e. U8 (players aged 7 and 8)
